Slow Down with Your Pet
Many of us, without knowing it, give healing to our animals on a very simple level just by loving and caring for them.
We often don’t notice small changes in our pet’s behaviour which may be the first indication that something is amiss before any symptoms appear of ill health. This is often because we are too busy or stressed or even just tired.
So what can we do? Well we need to slow down and have some quality time with our pets where there are no distractions and we can give our sole attention to them.
You can take the first step by following this short exercise, read it through first and then have a go:
Choose a time and place to sit comfortably and undisturbed (by phones, noise or interruptions) with your pet.
Start stroking them and become conscious of the feeling of their coat under your hand and their breathing.
After a while turn your focus to your own breath and gently slow your breathing down a little and imagine, if you can, your breath going all the way down into your tummy and feel the different temperature of the air in your nose as you breathe in and out.
Keep your attention on your breath for as long as you can while continuing to stroke you pet. Don’t worry if you have stopped stroking them or touching them it doesn’t matter.
Now turn your attention back to your pet and notice how relaxed they are and then to how you feel too.
This exercise can take as little or as long as you want so just enjoy being with your pet, they will love it.
